Snow White Inspired Costume

Greetings,

 I really enjoy fairy tales. Especially Grimm's tale "Snow White".

So I was most pleased when I heard about the up coming "Snow White and the Huntsman"... with costumes designed by Colleen Atwood.

Because the movie is not yet out, I simply based my inspiration off of the images I grabbed from the trailer.

Here are the pictures I used as guidelines for the version below...

As you can see the costume starts out long...as in this moving shot.So I decided to go with the long linen dress length... The red on the movie costume is much brighter then it appears here.

I might chop it off later and add the leather leggings. We shall see.

The costume I made here is constructed out of organic linens and silk.

The under dress is almost an ice blue color with 100% silk lacing up the sleeves and hand made trim. Neckline also features a medieval style neckline construction.

The ornate sleeves are lined with red apple hued silk and accented with bronze lead studs. Long lined lined silk strips create that classic fairytale look.

Bodice of the over dress is fully boned and laced up the front with a shimmery bronze braid that is reminiscent of a chain.

Here are few more detailed shots.....just to give an idea. The hem of the gowns are raw and rugged. As though it has been ripped.

The neckline of the underdress bodice is accented with hand made lace in a light blue. 

As with all my costumes everything is "inspired by the movie" I do not claim to have everything identical of the original. I just try to capture the "feel" of the movie costume. :)

Padme Nightgown

This is a costume I made for a customer who was looking for a gown based off of Padme's Nightgown in Star Wars Episode 3: Revenge of the Sith. 

Here are some movie images that were used for inspiration.

The pictures don't do the gown justice, but you get the idea.

The gown is completely constructed from a gorgeous silk satin blend fabric. Shimmery, smooth and perfect for dreams in a galaxy far far away.

The dress feature strings of pearls that will drape gracefully over the shoulders when worn.

Beads and sequins created a lovely Star Wars inspired design on the front bodice.

The back of the gown has this really cool back "train" of fabric and pearl details.

The straps keep the gown in place and draw the eye towards the bodice detail. Front panels of the gown are edged with embroidery stitches.

1870's Vampire Ballgown

This actually an older dress of mine, but I was wearing it the other day for another event and thought I would snap a few shots. The orginal dress post is right here with more pictures

This gown matched my Dracula book and silver locket, thus the reason for including them in the shots.

The gown is made of a dark red heavy silk type fabric with a contrasting black embossed center panel. The top of the sleeves are sewn out of the same fabric as the center, but the lower halves of the sleeves are a sheer chiffon style fabric.

On the front of the bodice there is an overlay of a lace style design that has been sewn on to give the dress texture and detail. Hand embroidery was done down the front along the edge of the black panel.

The back of the gown has been bustled to achieve that silhouette.

Men's Pirate Wardrobe Essentials

The photos featured here are of some Men's Pirate Wardrobe essentials I recently created for customers. I decided to group them all together for easier viewing.

Black Textured Linen Pirate Coat Outfit

This is a very detailed pirate coat. Fully trimmed in black braid work, silver metal buttons, welt pockets and large pirate cuffs.

Win Tapestry Vest Outfit

The tapestry vest is fully lined. Features real welt pockets, bronze metal buttons, fold over front and fitted back out of brown wool.

Linen Pirate Shirt and Suede Pirate Pants Outfit

This shirt is a lovely cream linen detailed pirate shirt. The silky golden sash completes the classic pirate look. Pirate pants button up the front with closures on the knee as well.

Only high quality fabrics and supplies are used.

A Rock'n Roll Pirate Wedding

I had the opportunity to create an Island Gown for a lovely bride who was looking for something unique for her Pirate/Rock' n Roll inspired Wedding.

I really like the whole look they went with...

The design I made for her was one of my "Island Inspired" dresses. Created from linen and lined with a silky shimmery silk/rayon blend.

Lacing up the front accentuates the bust while lacing down the sleeves achieves a custom fit.



The wedding photos that they had taken are just stunning...

Inspired by Arwen's Chase Dress

This costume was inspired by the one worn by Arwen in the Fellowship of the Ring. Many LOTR fans will know it as the "Chase Dress". Thus I named it as such.

The costume version here is "inspired by" the movie version.  I do not claim to have it identical to the original, but I think it captures the look and feel of an elven princess riding gown. Perfect for saving hobbits or in your own daily adventures.

I am afraid the pictures do not do it justice. The tones and hues of the fine suede and contrasting silk sashes do not show their full brilliance with a camera. However, it shall give you an idea of what the costume looks like. The fabric is so soft!

Collar detail above....and the full bodice detail below.

The costume is made from a soft dove gray suede. Fully detailed and lined with a silk blend fabric that swishes and flows in the wind.

The lower white sleeves is a silk fabric that features a fine textured pleating. Sadly a detail not fully visible in photos.

above you can see some of the embroidery detail....collar and sleeves. All embroidery is done by hand.

The front and back of the skirts are split for ease of riding. Leggings are then worn.

Swan Princess Inspired Dress

For this post I have a dress to share with you all that was inspired by the elves in Lord of the Rings and also by a "Swan Princess" theme. The customer and I worked with some ideas and this the result.

Close up of the neckline... I used high quality bridal fabrics for this dress and the under dress. The Outer gown fabric is a wool blend...very princess like.

The dress is a 2 part construction like my Arwen dress. With an under dress and over dress carefully sewn to achieve that fairytale look. The color palette as you can see is a selection of ivory and dark golden tones.

The neckline is accented with hand beaded trim and swan colored feathers. A deep v of lacing flatters the bust and adds a touch of unique style to the design.

The full sweeping golden sleeves are lined with two sheer layers of hand dyed chiffon silk that was shredded to emulate feathers. As though this princess might just turn into a swan at night.

For the upper part of the sleeves I created a band of hand beading, golden trim and embroidery. I thought it looked a bit historical and middle earth like.

The hem has been dyed a pale golden color to create a pretty effect, much like the flowing sleeves.

Inspired by Arwen's Coronation Gown

This costume has been a long time in the making. You can read more about how it was created over at my blog. Here is the link to where you can read more about that process.

The gown was highly inspired by Arwen's Coronation Gown from Return of the King.You can see the movie gown below in the photos. 

I tried my best to get everything very similar to Arwen's Dress.

The velvet I used was a bit more sage green...and a shade darker than her lime hue...however, I really like my color. It still captures that "elven princess" look I think.

For the dress I used yards and yards of green velvet and very large amounts of beads.

The low scooped neckline is designed to flow and hang off of the shoulders in an elegant fashion.

Fitted through the bust and gracefully falls to the floor. The entire look of this gown is designed to bring attention to your face and shoulders and creat a long lean line.

In this photo you can see some of my bead work. Everything is carefully hand beaded upon a silken brocade in a light green shade.

All the beads are clear crystal lined with silver. Such a sparkle they create!

The camera does not due them justice....or capture the glow.

The giant full sleeves cascade to the floor and are fully lined with light green chiffon. (not pictured)

 The back of the gown features a very long train....I promise there is no discoloration on the velvet, the light was just showing up funny. Once I do a photoshoot outdoors that will look better.

Here is one last picture of the beading....and real silk thread!

oh! I made the shoes. Recovered with velvet, crystal beading and velvet trim.

I thought they would be perfect for any elven Coronation. Here are some close up shots.

Transylvania Nightgown

This Nightgown was highly inspired by Transylvania Legends and Lore....Dracula anyone?

Dracula is the classic vampire tale written by Bram Stoker in 1897. The novel wove a story of vampire myth to create a literary legacy. The story was set in Transylvania...thus creating a new platform for many other stories that would soon follow based in this same region.

For the gown I used a lovely organic bamboo and rayon fabric. It is the kind of fabric that is amazingly soft and becomes better with age.

The fabric is a bit thin, but this creates a lovely ghostly effect. Or some such thing.

Almost an off the shoulder low neck that is perfectly romantic.

The low scooped neckline is a drawstring that I stitched in place and tied in a knot so there is not fear of it coming undone.

The sleeves are full and pointed on the lower hem.

Simple long hem floats around the ankles.....or I am sure you could fly in it was well if you happen to have that power come midnight.

Fairytale Enchantress Costume

I am doing a group of "fairytale" inspired costumes over at my etsy shop and this was one of them.

This costume was created out of a selection of purple hued fabrics inspired by King Arthur Legends ….and that classic Fairytale look as well.

The long flowing sleeves elongate the figure for a true fairytale silhouette.

The Costume includes the Plum Gown and the Purple Hood.

Thus being able to create 2 looks with the same costume…one is an elegant look for court and the second is perfect for traveling in the dark woods at night.

The Dress is accented with real silk velvet to bring attention to the scooped neckline.  A swirling pattern of tone on tone rose fabric create the main part of the gown.

Dress style is fitted, but not tight. Closes in the back with an invisible zipper.

and last but not least, a few shots of the hood...my favorite part!
