For this costume my customer was looking for a gown inspired by Elizabeth's plum pirate gown as worn in Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl.
This is a very memorable dress given to Elizabeth by Captain Barbossa. Underneath is her Island Gown she wears on the island with Jack.
We wanted to keep the color similar to original in a light weight plum silk.
This dress has tons of movement and the pictures truly don't do it justice. When worn it flounces out and takes on a life of its own. Perfect for running way from cursed pirates aboard ship.
The full sleeves and skirt are historical in construction and feature lots of detail work.
Here are some of the details close up....
I really like how the plum silk contrasts with the antique golden trim.
Of course this costume would not be complete without the Island Gown to be worn underneath the plum pirate dress. This island gown is made of linen and lined with silken fabric.
Pirate costumes are one of my all time favourites to sew. This gown was really fun.
