Galadriel's gown has always been one I have wanted to recreate. A lovely customer recently commissioned such a dress from me and here are the results.
We were going for a version inspired by Galadriel's "mirror" scene in The Fellowship of the Ring. The pictures below are the ones I used for reference in creating this look.
The design of the dress is very elegant and medieval in style. Perfect for capturing that elven grace that Galadriel has. Dress features a train, ankle length elf style sleeves and ornate beaded belt.
For the fabric I used a combination of extremely high quality textiles.
Her gown was created with a stunning beaded chiffon blend fabric. The flower and leaf design upon the silk chiffon are accented with thousands of crystal beads. This gives a very magical feel to the fabric when the gown is worn. It sparkles and shimmers under the sunlight.
The lining of the gown is a high quality crepe backed satin that drapes to perfection and creates an elegant impression under the beaded overlay of the rest of the dress.
Of course a Galadriel inspired gown must have a train. So I created a sweeping version that can trail behind her as she walks through the forest. The subtle shimmer of the lining and crystal beads add to her magical style.
One of my favourite elements to the gown was the belt. It is a very ornate beaded trim from Germany that I fashioned into a belt. Satin silk ribbon was hand sewn to the back of the trim to finish off the look.
The neckline of the gown features another beaded design that I felt really added to that elvish feel of the dress. It isn't identical to the movie one, but gives the impression of the same style.
