This costume was inspired by King Theoden from the Lord of the Rings trilogy. His royal Rohan garments were rich in texture and feature a very medieval color palette.
The original movie costume is as follows...
The version I created for a customer can be seen here below.
The cape is made from a stunning German wool in a deep wine red and forest green. I used a silk woven celtic trim for the edging and created a pointed design on the square celtic hood.
Chocolate colored silk velvet was used to construct the tabard and was then trimmed with a golden viking trim. I really liked the high quality silk velvet. It was such a deep chocoloate hue.
For the cuffs my customer wanted something that was detachable. So I accented them with ornate metal buttons on the back and trimmed them with golden embroidery. The sleeves are deep burgandy peach skin silk fabric.
Shirt details include neckline lacing and woven trims. A high collar and Rohan inspired cape clasp complete the look.
The back of the wool cape is a full circle design and custom designed hood shape.
Thank you for looking at my costumes.
Here is a photo the customer who commisoned the costume took at Comic Con meeting Sean Astin. So fun!
