Snow White Inspired Costume

Greetings,

 I really enjoy fairy tales. Especially Grimm's tale "Snow White".

So I was most pleased when I heard about the up coming "Snow White and the Huntsman"... with costumes designed by Colleen Atwood.

Because the movie is not yet out, I simply based my inspiration off of the images I grabbed from the trailer.

Here are the pictures I used as guidelines for the version below...

As you can see the costume starts out long...as in this moving shot.So I decided to go with the long linen dress length... The red on the movie costume is much brighter then it appears here.

I might chop it off later and add the leather leggings. We shall see.

The costume I made here is constructed out of organic linens and silk.

The under dress is almost an ice blue color with 100% silk lacing up the sleeves and hand made trim. Neckline also features a medieval style neckline construction.

The ornate sleeves are lined with red apple hued silk and accented with bronze lead studs. Long lined lined silk strips create that classic fairytale look.

Bodice of the over dress is fully boned and laced up the front with a shimmery bronze braid that is reminiscent of a chain.

Here are few more detailed shots.....just to give an idea. The hem of the gowns are raw and rugged. As though it has been ripped.

The neckline of the underdress bodice is accented with hand made lace in a light blue. 

As with all my costumes everything is "inspired by the movie" I do not claim to have everything identical of the original. I just try to capture the "feel" of the movie costume. :)

Swan Princess Inspired Dress

For this post I have a dress to share with you all that was inspired by the elves in Lord of the Rings and also by a "Swan Princess" theme. The customer and I worked with some ideas and this the result.

Close up of the neckline... I used high quality bridal fabrics for this dress and the under dress. The Outer gown fabric is a wool blend...very princess like.

The dress is a 2 part construction like my Arwen dress. With an under dress and over dress carefully sewn to achieve that fairytale look. The color palette as you can see is a selection of ivory and dark golden tones.

The neckline is accented with hand beaded trim and swan colored feathers. A deep v of lacing flatters the bust and adds a touch of unique style to the design.

The full sweeping golden sleeves are lined with two sheer layers of hand dyed chiffon silk that was shredded to emulate feathers. As though this princess might just turn into a swan at night.

For the upper part of the sleeves I created a band of hand beading, golden trim and embroidery. I thought it looked a bit historical and middle earth like.

The hem has been dyed a pale golden color to create a pretty effect, much like the flowing sleeves.

Inspired by Arwen's Coronation Gown

This costume has been a long time in the making. You can read more about how it was created over at my blog. Here is the link to where you can read more about that process.

The gown was highly inspired by Arwen's Coronation Gown from Return of the King.You can see the movie gown below in the photos. 

I tried my best to get everything very similar to Arwen's Dress.

The velvet I used was a bit more sage green...and a shade darker than her lime hue...however, I really like my color. It still captures that "elven princess" look I think.

For the dress I used yards and yards of green velvet and very large amounts of beads.

The low scooped neckline is designed to flow and hang off of the shoulders in an elegant fashion.

Fitted through the bust and gracefully falls to the floor. The entire look of this gown is designed to bring attention to your face and shoulders and creat a long lean line.

In this photo you can see some of my bead work. Everything is carefully hand beaded upon a silken brocade in a light green shade.

All the beads are clear crystal lined with silver. Such a sparkle they create!

The camera does not due them justice....or capture the glow.

The giant full sleeves cascade to the floor and are fully lined with light green chiffon. (not pictured)

 The back of the gown features a very long train....I promise there is no discoloration on the velvet, the light was just showing up funny. Once I do a photoshoot outdoors that will look better.

Here is one last picture of the beading....and real silk thread!

oh! I made the shoes. Recovered with velvet, crystal beading and velvet trim.

I thought they would be perfect for any elven Coronation. Here are some close up shots.

Fairytale Enchantress Costume

I am doing a group of "fairytale" inspired costumes over at my etsy shop and this was one of them.

This costume was created out of a selection of purple hued fabrics inspired by King Arthur Legends ….and that classic Fairytale look as well.

The long flowing sleeves elongate the figure for a true fairytale silhouette.

The Costume includes the Plum Gown and the Purple Hood.

Thus being able to create 2 looks with the same costume…one is an elegant look for court and the second is perfect for traveling in the dark woods at night.

The Dress is accented with real silk velvet to bring attention to the scooped neckline.  A swirling pattern of tone on tone rose fabric create the main part of the gown.

Dress style is fitted, but not tight. Closes in the back with an invisible zipper.

and last but not least, a few shots of the hood...my favorite part!

Lord of the Rings Fellowship Inspired Cape

Greetings,

This is one of three capes we created to wear to a Lord of the Rings concert a while back. You can read my blog post about that concert "our journey to middle earth" or even try some lembas bread or hobbit birthday cake. Alright...back to the costumes.

My fellowship cape design was greatly inspired by the movie versions as seen being worn by Frodo and Aragorn below.

We even found some leaf pins that look very similar to the movie! *click on the images for larger pictures if you like.

This cape is perfect for wearing through your daily adventures...the full style is elegant and flows very well when you walk.

I can't promise it will make you invisible to evil eyes though...that you shall have to test yourself.

The fabric is a lovely soft green/gray elvish color. It is woolen knit that drapes beautifully and truly feels like something made in an elven realm.

I love wearing the hood up. It reminds me of Legolas..or just elves in general. If you are shorter, it truly looks like the perfect hobbit from the back.

The dress I am wearing mine with in these images is just a simple princess style...made from a selection of plum fabrics in a deep hue. That dress is currently for sale over here on the etsy shop.

SteamPunk Fairy Costume

Greetings, Here are some picture of my SteamPunk Fairy Costume.

I created this for an event and also because I haven't yet done a fairy costume for myself. Thus, I decided to combine it with bit of a steampunk flair. So without further ado, here is my costume.

 The Costume consists of a fully boned silk corset with detailed SteamPunk style sleeves, a victorian inspired skirt...and last but not least, a pair of metal and organza wings.

 

Here are a few detailed shots of the corset, painting and buttons on the bodice front.

The back of the wings feature a turn key, to create the look of a Victorian toy or perhaps a mechanical fairy created as an experiment.

 

Another view of the wings, I really liked the key in the back. Made it much more fun to wear.

Tia Fairy Costume

~ Tia Fairy Costume ~

This costume was custom made with inspiration and design idea for a fairy/pirate costume inspired by my version of the Tia Dalma Costume.  So I have named this costume The Tia Fairy Costume.   

Costume consists of…

1. 1. A linen corset with beading and fabric detail at the neck. Fully laces up the back for a flattering fit. The straps tie onto the front of the corset with some pretty lacing. Fully boned corset style for a pretty fit.

2. The Tia style skirt is made of linen, tapestry and beading.

Fabrics are slightly aged and worn for a pretty look.

The beading was hand sewn onto the bodice for a pretty pirate look.

    The skirt is made of taffeta and linens…with lots of hand sewing beading design.

Dryad Costume

This costume was created for a highschool production of Narnia in 2006.

   

Dryad Costume

 This Costume was also created for a Narnia Play… lots of leaves were added to give it a lovely leaf affect.  Because these costumes are one of a kind they can’t be replicated down to the last detail, but they can be recreated in your own style or design.

 The dryad costume was made using browns and greens cut into long petal shapes to form a skirt…lots of leaves were added. The sash in the back creates a perfect fit.
