Things have been busy around here with life and costume work. However, I was able to sneak away from sewing to see the new Maleficent movie.
Now, I am a huge fan of Maleficent from Disney's Sleeping Beauty. She is my all time favourite Disney villian with her elegant evil looks and majestic pet raven.
I won't go into detail upon the story of the new movie as evey one has different movie tastes (I thought it was a fun magical movie) However what I wanted to talk about briefly were the costumes. Those were amazing!
The Costume Desinger was Anna B. Sheppard who also did the costumes for Captain America.
She took a very unique look to the costumes while still maintaining those elements of Maleficent that we have come to expect when we think of that villainous beauty.
Angelia wore so many intricate and ornate costume in this movie. Maybe eventually I can do research post upon each garment, but for now I shall simply do an overview of a view of her looks.
Her Wings. Those wings were incredible.
I want a pair! Somehow her horns looked very elegant and fairy like when she had her wings. It softened the harshness perhaps. Her brown silk dress had a very Grecian influence to it.
During part of the movie she wrapped her horns with snake skins. I don't recall what costume she was wearing when I noticed the snakeskin horns, but maybe I shall simply have to see it again.
I thought this scene was especially fun because it was Angelina's little girl who played young Sleeping Beauty. They both are wearing fantastic costumes. All the details!
Her black leather battle costume can be seen below with her feathered wings.
I think my favourite costume she wore in the movie was the black silk velvet robe/gown that covered her leather battle costume. It was more elegant and fitted then the rest of her robes and had a softer almost more romantic feel.
What costume did you enjoy the most from the new retelling of Maleficent's tale?
I am hoping to recreate some of her costumes! That would be so much fun. If you are interested in ordering a Maleficent inspired costume feel free to contact me for details and I would be happy to help you.
Have a magical day!
